News: “Great Mi`kmaq Leadership”

Mi`kmaq coaches Kevin Sandy, Kristen Ezard and Sara Lynn Knockwood ran regional lacrosse sessions for Mi'kmaq lacrosse players at Waycobah, Eskasoni, Pictou, Millbrook and Annapolis Valley First Nation. It was a great week of lacrosse for new and experienced players alike, who learned the historical and cultural background of the game, as well as being introduced to the skills of the game. Mi`kmaq players are looking forward to the Summer Games coming up later this month, which will include field lacrosse.

News: “New Lacrosse Learning Facilitators``

After September 8th and 9th, Nova Scotia will add two new Master Learning Facilitators, Bruce McCullogh (Atlantic Coordinator for Nova Scotia and Newfoundland) and David Kehoe (Halifax South West Coach) to its roster. It`s a very busy weekend for the coaches who will be trained to run NCCP clinics up to Competitive Intro in all disciplines, train new Learning Facilitators and Evaluators and complete in-person evaluations. Thanks to CLA for providing the financial assistance to cover the costs of sending a coach to the Toronto clinic.

News: “Shameless Promotion?”

Tongue-in-cheek, U16 Head Provincial Coach, Brendon Smithson, admits it`s, ``shameless promotion``, but what player doesn`t like seeing themselves in the newspaper. To help promote the achievement of his U16 Truro players, that are heading to Oshawa for field Nationals on Labour Day weekend, Brendon coordinated an article with the Truro Daily Newspaper. Do take a look online at  http://www.trurodaily.com/Sports/2012-08-17/article-3055426/History-in-the-making/1 .

News: “Coaching Achievements”

Pleased to announce that Jon Goguen and Bryan MacEachern are now Certified Men`s Field Community Development Coaches. Also pleased to announce that Chris Clarke and Bryan MacEachern are now certified Box Community Development Coaches. Don`t forget, you can always go to ``55 Links`` to check the minimum certification required for the discipline and age group you wish to coach at http://cla.pointstreaksites.com/view/cla/coaching-3/certification (Club, Provincial & National).

Column: “Tips from the Crease”

“Your Account”

The “Coaches” main tab on LNSS’s website has been updated to help coaches set up an online CLA coaching account and now provides the “how-toes” to view certification status on NCCP’s website. If you don’t have a CLA coaching account, you’ll need an ID passcode, which can be obtained by emailing lacrossetechdirector@sportnovascotia.ca . Note: coaches are no longer sent an NCCP coaching card with their number. This can now be printed off from your NCCP account.

If you have any tips you’d like to share, email them to lacrossetechdirector@sportnovascotia.ca

Column: “Alumni News”

Best wishes go to Don “Twig” McElhone on his journey to Cornwall, Ontario, for his induction into the community’s Sport Hall of Fame. Hope you had a great time.
