how cool is that!”
News: “Head Injury Reports!”
The CLA has released a head injury report form that it would like
players, coaches, managers or parents to complete within 30 days of an injury.
For more details and PDF, go to LNSS’s website under “Recent Headlines”.
News: “Can’t Let the Boys have all the
Fun”
Coach and player Danica Cooley is leading up the first Women’s Field
Lacrosse program at Dalhousie, Acadia and Mount A with the first games being
played this fall. Anyone interested in playing, coaching and/or becoming an
official, get in touch with Danica via Facebook. Plans are to hold pre-season
officiating and coaching clinics.
News: “Masters Lobster Trap”
It’s that time of year again to pull out the
old wood stick, shake off the dust and show those young players how the game is
played at this year’s Masters Lacrosse game at Shannon Park arena Sunday, June
30th. Stick , helmet/mask and gloves is all you’ll need: Warm-ups
start at 11:30 am and game starts at noon. Don’t miss this great annual tradition.
News: “Valley Thundered with Jamboree”
Valley (Thunder), Kentville and Digby (Admirals) collided Saturday, June
22nd, at the new Berwick arena for their year-end Jamboree. Games
ran from eight in the morning until four in the afternoon with added
attractions like the BBQ, 50/50 raffle
and lots of door prizes. The competition was strong and the younger groups
showed a lot of skill considering that many players are new to lacrosse or only
have a year under their belt. It won’t be long and these new programs will be
vying for Provincial championships.
News: “Provincial Program”
On July 25th, Rick Phillips will be
running a Men’s Field Competitive Introduction coaching clinic for Provincial,
NSFLL, MUFLL and high schools coaches. Rick will also run special sessions for
the U16 and U16 Provincial teams as they gear up for the Labour Day weekend National
Championships.
News: “Last Metro Coaching Clinics”
It’s unfortunate, but the last box Community
Development had to be cancelled this month due to lack of numbers. The box
Competitive Development clinic did, however, take place June 14th-15th
with a strong showing of Provincial Assistant Coaches. Congratulations go to
coaches Greg Nussey, Matt Kent, Jordan Coyle, Scott Bonn, Kerwin Hynes, Ryan
Morris, Daniel Buchanan, Chad Mombourquette, Chris Morrison, Chris Musial and
Mark Falkenham for completing the the box Comm Dev clinic this year.
Congratulations also go out to coaches Nick
Horne, Brandon Newton, Chris Clarke, Todd Umlah, Jon Goguen, Mitch Hannigan,
Glen Holmes, Lou Christian, Sean Carrigan, David Kehoe, Susan Batchilder, Josh
Vincent, Jessie Dale, Sam Martin and Joe LaLeune for completing the box Comp
Intro clinic.
For those coaches needing to complete their on-site
practice evaluation, do get in touch with Wayne Finck, Kent Hayley or David
Kehoe as soon as possible. There are quite a few coaches in this situation and
the evaluations take a bit of planning to carry off.
A big Thank You goes to our LFs and ME, Wayne
Finck, Mike LaLeune and David Kehoe for providing this year’s rounds of box
coaching clinics and evaluations.
News: “NCCP Certification & Verification”
Lacrosse Nova Scotia has taken great pains
over the last month to ensure that every coach that completed a box or field
NCCP clinic has been given credit. Because of how the CLA online coaching
account system works and The Locker, some coaches were not given credit.
Coaches, please check your CLA coaching accounts and “Locker” status at the
beginning of July (hopefully all records will have been updated by then) and
let LNSS know of any irregularities. For those coaches that have not set up a
CLA account, you will only be able to check your “Locker” status.
Alumni News:
Those players over the age of 20 are invited
to Newfoundland to play in their 3rd Annual Surf’n Turf Lacrosse
Tournament. Spots are still available on the team, just contact Steve Gilbert (sgilbert_44@hotmail.com). Teams from
Alberta and Ontario will be on hand and you know a great time is guaranteed.
